ABOUT ARCADIAN ALPACAS

Arcadian Alpacas began in 1994 when partners Denise Moysey and Tom Gouldie purchased 2 pregnant females. Since then the Arcadian herd has grown to over 120 animals and reducing back down to about 80. Located on a scenic 40 acre property in the Adelaide Hills, close to Mt Barker township, Arcadian now provide a range of stud and alpaca-related services and specialise in quality grey alpacas (huacayas only). Some superior coloured and white Peruvian (Barreda) genetics are also part of the Arcadian herd. In March 2010, a parallel herd, named Appaloosa Alpacas, was initiated. Appaloosa alpaca stud male services commenced in April 2010 and appaloosa alpaca sales followed later.

Both Denise and Tom have served terms on the Australian Alpaca Association (A.A.A) South Australian (S.A) Region's Committee, and Tom has completed 2 terms on the A.A.A.'s National Committee, chairing the Legal and Ethics Sub-committee. Tom was also an Industry Representative on the S.A. Alpaca Advisory Group which provides advice to the S.A. Minister for Primary Industries.

In late 2012, Tom retired from his 9-5 job and now runs his own private consultancy business which takes him overseas regularly. The Arcadian herd will be slowly reduced in size during 2014 to allow both partners more opportunity for travel abroad.

Arcadian Alpacas have successfully exhibited at local, interstate and A.A.A. National Shows since 1995. Numerous animal Class wins have been further enhanced by Supreme Champion, Champion and Reserve Championship awards as well as many “Best of Colour” sashes. Arcadian fleeces have also showed very well, with Class wins and “Best of Colour” awards highlighted by the winning of three consecutive Champion Fleece awards at Royal Adelaide Show plus Most Valuable Commercial Huacaya Fleece at the A.A.A. National Show 2004 and runner-up MVCF in 2005, both times with fleeces from stud male, Arcady Augustus. In 2013 Arcadian Alpacas exhibited fleeces in the International Show in NZ, winning Premier Fancy Fleece with Appaloosa Faux Pas's fleece.

Arcadian Alpacas provide a regular selection of good quality commercial and elite stock for sale. Excellent starter or improver packages may be negotiated, or select individuals may be purchased to enhance your existing herd. From time to time special pet males will be made available to suitable homes. Occasionally companion or guardian wethers are also for sale. Most adults and weanlings are halter-trained. Arcadian animals are well-nourished and well-grown.
